Fall update 2023

Fall update 2023

A hot and dry summer season ended with a massive storm that swept through the region just as our Fall semester students were arriving. Although most had extended and unexpected journeys due to flight and ferry cancellations, all 23 girls arrived safely and in good spirits.

Here on Skopelos, as we prepared to welcome our students, our team of 4 staff rode out the rains spending very busy days waterproofing treehouses and dining room, drying out mattresses, remaking beds, and doing other odd jobs around the property to recover from the thankfully minimal damage caused by torrential downpours. Though a few days delayed, our Bible school program got off to a positive start.

The recurring theme of our worship, prayers, and conversation was the goodness and faithfulness of God, whose presence was felt by everyone at every step of their journey to get here. Now three weeks in, the course is running smoothly, with a strong spirit of unity and cooperation among our small community of 29 students, staff, and volunteers.

The builders are now back after their holidays, so the building project has again resumed. During the month of October, we expect the buildings will be weatherproofed with all the exteriors finished. The scaffolding will be removed, and the mounds of unsightly earth will be pushed back and the grounds landscaped to give a scene of serenity again rather than a construction site.
